A PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate proves that your vehicle’s emissions are within permitted limits. These days most PUCs are issued digitally and can be viewed or downloaded online from government portals. This post shows the easiest, safest ways to find and download your PUC certificate and what to do if it’s not visible online. Transport Department+1
Parivahan PUC portal (official portal maintained by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways) — best place to look for the latest PUC record for your vehicle. Transport Department
Digilocker — some PUC records are also available in Digilocker under issued documents (if the issuing centre uploads them). cholainsurance.com
Open the Parivahan PUC page: the PUC section of the Parivahan site. Transport Department
Click PUC Certificate / PUC Details.
Enter the vehicle registration number (example: KA01AB1234).
Enter the last 5 digits of the chassis number (some portals request this for verification).
Enter the captcha/security code and submit.
The portal will show the latest PUC entry (issue date, expiry date, test result). Click Download or Print to save a PDF/copy for your records. Kanakkupillai+1
Note: Parivahan typically only displays PUC records that have been uploaded by authorized PUC centres. If the centre hasn’t uploaded, it may not appear online immediately. Reddit
Log into Digilocker (digilocker.gov.in) with your mobile number / Aadhaar (as per Digilocker flow).
Go to Issued Documents → search for Emission Certificate / PUC.
Enter vehicle details if asked and click Get Document to pull any available PUC copy. Download the PDF. cholainsurance.com
Always keep a soft copy (PDF) on your phone and a printed copy as backup.
If the PUC is not visible on Parivahan, confirm with the PUC centre — sometimes upload delays happen. Carry the printed/physical receipt issued by the centre until it’s visible online. Reddit
Validity periods: PUC validity depends on vehicle type and results (shorter for failed/conditional tests). Always check the expiry date. Policybazaar
No PUC found: Ask the PUC centre if they uploaded the record; request them to upload or provide a printed certificate.
Wrong details: Contact the PUC centre or RTO if the uploaded data is incorrect.
Portal errors/captcha: Try again after some minutes or switch browser/device.
Q: Can I apply for a new PUC online?
A: No — you must get the vehicle tested at an authorized PUC centre. The online portals allow you to view/download issued PUC records, not to perform the test. Aditya Birla Capital
Q: Is online PUC valid everywhere in India?
A: Yes — a PUC record issued by an authorized centre is valid nationwide; however, make sure the issuing centre is authorized and the record is uploaded. Policybazaar
